Weather sets stage for early field work

Above average temperatures and a relatively swift spring thaw have area producers gearing up to hit the fields a few weeks early this spring.

Typically, spring seeding begins in Manitoba in the last week of April leading into the first two weeks of May says Elmer Kaskiw, a Manitoba Agriculture farm production adviser in the Shoal Lake area.

Recent showers and continued overnight frost have Manitoba producers poised to start seeding as early as April 24, Kaskiw said.
