Kandahar city hit by explosions
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — A set of powerful explosions, one of them aimed at an American-funded community support group, rocked Kandahar city Thursday, killing at least two people and injuring 20 more.
Afghan officials initially reported that as many as six people were dead, but revised the figure after a search of the ruins of Afghanistan Stabilization Initiative (ASI) compound.
Zulmai Ayoubi, a spokesman for the provincial governor’s office, said the blast was so big it collapsed some nearby buildings and the death toll could rise.
